Our ministry takes the story of Jesus' burial by Joseph of Arimathea and applies it to our experience and participation in the corporal works of mercy by helping grieving families bury their dead.
Arimatheans assist with preparing for funerals and attending to tasks during the Mass. Duties include minor setup and cleanup, aiding funeral directors, and answering questions of families and friends attending. Commitment time is around 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours and varies based on the number in attendance and if there is a Wake. Training is provided with the intention of each minister becoming comfortable to be on their own as needed.
If you are interested in joining this ministry, please contact the Arimathea Coordinator.
Our dedicated group of adult volunteers are scheduled as altar servers and sacristans when funeral details are being arranged in the Parish Office.
If you would like to become a Funeral Server or Sacristan, please contact the Funeral Coordinator.
Joseph from Arimathea went to Pilate and requested Jesus' body be released for burial. Joseph wrapped it in clean linen and laid it in a new tomb he had hewn in a rock. (Matthew 27: 57-60)
